You often hear about the Do’s and Don’ts of an age appropriate wardrobe and hairstyle, but what about skin care? As your skin ages, you need to adjust your skin care routine due to sun exposure, the loss of oils and collagen production, and changes in elasticity, tone and texture.
In your 20’s: Prevention of future damage is the key to your skin care routine. It should include daily sunscreen with a minimum SPF 30 and hydration with a moisturizer suited to you skin type (oily, combination, dry). Cleansing and exfoliating will increase cell turnover and help control acne whether it’s with a Clarisonic Skin Care Brush, manual exfoliation with dermaplane, or regular clinical facials.
In your 30’s: Prevention is still important, but your skin will start to show the signs of aging. Add anti-aging and firming products to your skin care routine, especially around the eyes. Treatments such as a Crystal-Free Microdermabrasion and light chemical peels will improve overall skin tone and texture with no downtime.
In your 40’s: Fine lines and wrinkles are typically more established. Your skin will slow down its production of natural oils and collagen. Skin care should include hydration and anti-aging nutrients such as amino peptides and Vitamins A & C. Photo Rejuvenation (often called IPL or BBL) reduces freckling and irregular pigmentation from sun damage and creates a more smooth appearance to the skin and even some reduction in pore size.
In your 50’s and 60’s: You may notice more dramatic changes in your skin including age or sun spots. Keep your skin well hydrated and don’t ignore the other areas of you skin exposed to sun. Dr. David Colbert uses the term “20-60” to refer to patients who have youthful faces but wrinkled and sun damaged neck, chest and hands which make you look older. At AesthetiCare we have packages designed to treat these areas.
The most important lesson is prevention. Use sunscreen every day and keep your skin well hydrated. Call AesthetiCare at (913) 338-5476 to schedule your complimentary skin analysis or visit our website www.greatskinkc.com to learn more about skin care.
